Breast augmentation surgery is not a complicated surgery. You can even return home the same day after the surgery or may be required to stay for a day in the hospital. Local anesthesia is given, whereby only the breasts become numb. You will be given sedatives to make you feel relaxed.
The shape of the implants may be circular or like a teardrop. It could either consist of silicone packet containing salt water or silicone gel. You can take advice from your surgeon as to what is best for you.
To place the breast implant, your surgeon will make cuts in either of the three places:
- The vertical fold between both the breasts.
- Near the nipple
- In the armpit
After the surgery, you may feel the pain for a few days. Your surgeon may advice some medicines to reduce the pain. You may return to your routine chores after a few days of the surgery. It may take about 2 to 3 weeks before you become absolutely normal,
There will be stitches where the incisions were made. The stitches may be absorbable and it won't be necessary to get the stitches removed.
In some cases, doctors may put drainage tubes in place post surgery. This will be removed later on. It is advisable to wear a sports bra to ensure extra support after the surgery. A burning sensation may be experienced in the nipples after the surgery for a couple of weeks. This sensation will diminish as the healing takes place. In case you observe warm sensation and redness in the breast or you are having fever, there are chances that you are having an infection. In this case, you should get in touch with your surgeon as the earliest.
The scars may be visible after the surgery. They may fade with passage of time, but some marks will remain.
